The Self-Study Process
In 1944, Inter American University of Puerto Rico was the first four-year liberal arts college outside the continental United States to be accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Universities. The Ponce Campus was first accredited in 1962 and has maintained its accreditation status throughout the years.
Every ten years we must reaffirm accreditation with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) by demonstrating compliance with all 14 standards of the
Characteristics of Excellence.
To demonstrate compliance with the Characteristics of Excellence, we must complete an in-depth evaluation of our strengths and areas of opportunity . Our findings must be presented in a
self-study report to MSCHE for evaluation.
Through a detailed introspection based on analysis, evaluation and judgment, the outcomes of the self-study process are expected to:
Goals of the Self-Study
Reaffirm accreditation status showing clear compliance with MSCHE standards and characteristics of excellence.
Clearly identify strengths and opportunities for improvement within the context of the Mission and Goals statements and outcomes assessment that will serve to guide strategic planning and the achievement of the Campus’s Mission.
Evaluate Campus assessment processes and the use of results for improving institutional effectiveness and student learning outcomes.
